Dreher facility proposed upgrades(posted Mar 2017):

Richland District One will again approach the City Planning Commission on April 3 seeking to upgrade the tennis facility and establish a multi-purpose field for practice and JV games within the north end of the Dreher campus, pictured below. Plans as presented by the Dreher Booster Club included seating for 900 people, a press box and lighting for after dark activity. The upgrade also means that the tennis courts will for the first time be useable for tournament play. It was stated that the new seating and parking capacity remain similar to that currently in use for other on-campus sports activities. The design is similar to that of other district schools and incorporates a 20 ft. buffer zone from the surrounding neighborhood as required by city code and the lighting is described as a state of the art to limit illumination to the field area only.

A proposed re-zoning to “C1 limited institutional” was recently rejected. Due to concerns of nearby residents modification of the design was requested by the City Hall Board of Zoning meeting in November. Interested parties are encouraged to attend the Planning Commission meeting Apr 3, 5:15 pm on 3rd floor of City Hall.

Update (Jan 2018): Dreher supporters have approached the City with relocated the facility siteing and reduced lighting and sound in an effort to secure approval for the project. Follow City Zoning for current details.
